An unsuspecting airplane passenger was in for the shock of his life this past Friday, when prior to taking off, looking out his window to see an airline technician applying duct tape to the outside of the plane’s engine.
This horrifying sight was captured by passenger Adam Wood, who posted the following picture to his twitter account, along with his concerns.
In an attempt to reassure the passenger that duct tape is in fact normal protocol, a spokesperson for the airline responded to Wood’s tweet with the following message:
“Please be reassured that the duct tape is in place as a result of some cosmetic work that is required to the aircraft paintwork. It is nothing structural and in no way compromises the safety of the aircraft.”
Flying can be unnerving enough on its own, but to see something like this right before the flight takes off would have me concerned too, especially considering the aircraft had already been grounded for 18 hours before the photo was taken.
