It’s being called the “biggest science scandal ever” and what has now been revealed lives up to the title.
Global warming believers frequently point to science to back their arguments, but what if the “science” was exposed as a lie. New analysis has showed that temperature data across large portions of the world were “adjusted” upward by scientists, thus inflating the evidence in favor of climate change.
Blogger Paul Homewood explains that temperature readings in South America were “systematically” increased by one degree Celsius, in a piece called “Massive tampering with temperatures in South America“. In the article Homewood checked the published temperature graphs for three weather stations in Paraguay against the temperatures that had originally been recorded. He found the actual trend of 60 years of data had been dramatically reversed, so that a cooling trend was changed to one that showed a marked warming.
Thinking that it could be a fluke, Homewood checked a group of other South American weather stations around the original three. In every one, he found the same result. The same suspicious one-way “adjustments†appeared. But who would make such deceiving adjustments? Homewood found that they were first made by the US government’s Global Historical Climate Network (GHCN). Two of the main official surface records, the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (Giss) and the National Climate Data Center (NCDC) then amplified the adjustments. The findings were so astonishing because these are the very records on which scientists and politicians rely for their belief in “global warmingâ€.
Next, Homewood decided to analyze data from the Arctic.  After  studying the weather stations between Canada (51 degrees W) and the heart of Siberia (87 degrees E), he discovered that the same one-way adjustments have been made. The adjustments show warming up to 1 degree C or more higher than what was indicated by the data actually recorded.
Homewood chose this particular area because the “vanishing†of its polar ice (and the polar bears) have become such a poster-child for global warming alarmists. However, that stretch of the Arctic is where ice is affected by warmer water brought in by cyclical shifts in a major Atlantic current. This last peaked at just the time 75 years ago when Arctic ice retreated even further than it has done recently. So the ice-melt is not caused by rising global temperatures at all. Homewood describes the scale and geographic range of the adjustments made as “breathtaking”.
In an article titled “Temperature adjustments transform climate history“Â Homewood says that he asked GHCN on several occasions to explain their adjustments, but despite acknowledgements that this would be done, they have remained unable to do so. He concluded that, “until they can, all of the evidence suggests that the official temperature trends for the Arctic, as published by GISS and others, are hopelessly flawed.”
