We all know that Obama hasn’t taken the threat of ISIS as seriously as he should, but after reading these messages, he may view the terrorist group as a little more “existential”.
Newsweek’s official twitter account was hacked Tuesday by a group claiming to be with the Islamic State. The group is calling themselves the “Cyber Caliphate†and they had some disturbing messages directed to Americans and Obama’s family.
They also tweeted, “While the U.S. and its satellites are killing our brothers in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan we are destroying your national cybersecurity system from inside. With Allah’s permission we continue CyberJihad inside Pentagon’s computer networks. Today we publish confidential documents from the U.S. National Cybersecurity Center (www.cyb3rc.com),â€
They had control of the site for a half an hour and even changed the account’s background to read their name, “Cyber Caliphate,†and “Je suIS IS.â€
Although it has not been verified as authentic, the account was also used to share what appeared to be documents relating to a military cybersecurity defense program.
Newsweek issued a statement saying, “We can confirm that Newsweek’s Twitter account was hacked this morning, and have since regained control of the account,â€
A Secret Service spokesman announced that the agency was “aware of the incident and taking appropriate action.â€
