It’s no secret that the United States is suffering from an obesity epidemic. What is surprising, however, is just how much the taxpayers are paying so morbidly obese people will not have to get a job… ever. Now, I understand that there are some people who have legitimate medical issues that contribute to being overweight, but a good deal of  massively “big-boned” people are that way because of a horribly unhealthy lifestyle.
Take obese UK couple Stephen Beer and Michelle Coombe for example. These two lovebirds have a combined weight of 750 pounds. Coombe, who weighs more than 320 pounds, says she’s never had a job in her life, and Beer, tipping the scales at more than 430 pounds, hasn’t worked in five years. The couple gets just over $3,000 per month in government benefits. The married couple are featured in a new documentary titled “Benefits: Too fat too work.” Many people have criticized the documentary, but in a recent interview, Beer defended himself, saying that he has been turned down for jobs because of his weight, but ultimately acknowledging that he doesn’t deserve benefits from the government. “The government are making it easy for people like us,†Beer said frankly. “I don’t think I deserve benefits — I put myself in the situation. I’m trying to sort myself out.â€
The show followed Coombe and Beer as they planned their wedding. The cost of that wedding, $4,500, came directly from government benefits.
At least, this couple has the guts to acknowledge that they are at fault for their weight. Top right news reported a story in September about a 350-pound British woman who claims it’s not her fault she’s morbidly obese. She insists that it’s because the government doesn’t give her enough money.
26 year-old Christina Briggs claims she can only eat fattening junk food  because healthier food is just too expensive for her. When asked why she doesn’t go to the gym she said, “I tried swimming but it cost $36 a month, and it meant I had to cut back on my favorite pizza and Chinese takeaways.â€Â “It’s not my fault – healthy food is too expensive,†she added. Briggs already receives a remarkable $36,000 a year from the government.
