Democrats are throwing another temper tantrum over Trey Gowdy and his select committee on Benghazi. The biggest crybaby is Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings. Cummings has been against this committee from the start. In September of 2013 he said the Accountability Review Board (ARB) report that some have called a “cover up†and a “whitewash†for not interviewing then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was “one of the most comprehensive†ever undertaken.  Cummings claimed that he saw no evidence to support the “reckless accusations†that the ARB did not “answer real questions†and was a “cover-up†meant to  “insulate Hillary Clinton.†So it was no surprise when he was named top Democrat on a panel solely created to complain about the republicans every move in the Benghazi investigation.  Cummings is doing just what he was hired to do and harshly criticizing Rep. Trey Gowdy, accusing the GOP lawmaker of locking them out of interviews with witnesses.
The issue will be confronted on Tuesday during a hearing reviewing the committee’s outstanding document requests where Neal Higgins, the CIA’s director of congressional affairs, and Joel Rubin, deputy assistant secretary of state for legislative affairs, will testify. Cummings has already released three letters complaining about Gowdy’s handling of the committee.  A letter written in December was signed by all five Democrats investigating the attacks. Democrats are now claiming that Republicans have interviewed at least five witnesses without a Democrat in attendance, including Ray Maxwell, a former State Department deputy who alleged he was told to scrub documents relating to the 2012 attacks.
“You have had different standards for Republicans and Democrats participating in this investigation, secret meetings with witnesses, and — perhaps most importantly — withheld or downplayed information when it undermines the allegations we are investigating,†Cummings wrote.
Democrats in the Obama administration have some nerve complaining about secrecy regarding ANY issue, especially Benghazi. This is the same administration that hid the survivors of the attack in December of 2012, according to Congressman Jason Chaffetz.
“My understanding is that we still have some people in the hospital. I’d like to visit with them and wish them nothing but the best but the State Department has seen it unfit for me to know who those people are–or even how many there are,†Rep. Chaffetz said. “I don’t know who they are. I don’t know where they live. I don’t know what state they’re from. I don’t even know how many there are. It doesn’t seem right to me.â€
Gowdy called Cummings out for trying to politicize the investigation. Select Committee on Benghazi Communications Director Jamal Ware said Democrats are allowed to interview witnesses without Republican staffers present. (article continues under ads, please scroll down)
“Chairman Gowdy will talk to Benghazi sources with or without the Democrats present just as they are welcome to talk to sources with or without Republicans present,†Ware said. “[N]o congressional select committee has ever had a requirement that sources meet with both sides at the same time, and the Benghazi Committee is no exception.â€
Ware added, “[T]he Democrats have released correspondence that attempts to politically characterize sources’ private discussions with the committee without proper context goes to the exact heart of why the chairman will not require sources to talk to both sides.â€
The five Democrats on the committee are also complaining that the panel is moving too slowly. I’m sure Democrats want to rush right through this considering the amount of lies exposed so far told by Obama, his administration and then Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. But I think Ambassador Stevens, Sean Smith,Ty Woods and Glen Doherty deserve a thorough investigation no matter how long it takes, don’t you?
